REVIEWS

The important message Donkey-Donk shares is that a journey anywhere is more than just getting from point A to point B. It requires stamina, training and a sense of determination. It also is an adventure in discovery, seeing and learning as you go along. And, the accomplishment is heartfelt. Even Donkey-Donk was pleased with his accomplishment and proudly displayed the t-shirt he earned from climbing Mount Washington. A fascinating little book of discovery. - Emily-Jane Hills Orford for Readers' Favorite Book Reviews

…the author does a great job of establishing a connection between the reader and the protagonist through not only great photography but artful storytelling. The book brings the story of this miniature donkey to life brilliantly, making the story flow at a reasonable pace for younger readers… A well written, short yet impactful read, this is the perfect read for anyone who enjoys picture books and children’s narratives. Full of heart, joy and creativity, author Ellen F. Feld’s Take A Hike! A Donkey-Donk Story (Book 3) is a must-read children’s story that stands out on its own while fitting into the overall series of stories expertly. - Author Anthony Avina’s Blog

I’m always looking for fun books to read to my two nephews — books where there are no ninjas and there are more words than Pow!, Bang! and Crash! This is a book that I can enjoy reading to them as much as they will take pleasure in the story…The photographs are wonderful (who doesn’t like mini donks) and being a New Englander, I am super impressed by the photos from Mount Washington…I can relate to the key message — that it’s important to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors. Donkey-Donk shows us that a hike is not just reaching the pinnacle, it’s about training, determination and stamina; it’s about the things you see along the way; and with a little motivation, anyone can do it.- EquineInk.com

In Take A Hike!, each turn of the page shows another part of the adventure and includes pictures of the adorable Donkey-Donk, who really traveled to the infamous Mount Washington to take photos for the book! I was surprised and delighted by the pictures of Donkey-Donk in silly situations, like training for the hike on a treadmill and trying to fit inside of a small backpacking tent the night before the big ascent. Along the way, you’ll also learn a few fun facts about the infamous Mount Washington, like how it is the location of the fastest wind speed ever recorded! The story of Donkey-Donk’s hike also encourages children to get outside and go on a hiking adventure of their own. Having hiked Mount Washington in the past, I enjoyed reliving the adventure through Donkey-Donk and am excited to share this book with my young nieces and nephews. - Tentside.com

The first things that catch your eye when you pick up the book are the gorgeous photographs of breathtaking views, each with Donkey-Donk front and center. The scenery is amazing. The donkey knows how to pose. Next you notice the lightly humorous, gently tongue-in-cheek story that will delight youngsters. The best part is that the text is sweet and succinct, not too wordy or overdone like some children’s books can be. It gives just the right amount of information using appropriate vocabulary, then moves on. And move it does, right up the mountain. Do you know what is at the top of Mount Washington? You will find out if you read this book. Take A Hike!  would be perfect to accompany a trip to New Hampshire or to encourage kids to get outside and take a hike in their own state. It is a must have for young horse or donkey lovers, too. Check out a copy today! - Wrapped In Foil

This is a simple children’s book (for ages 3-6), but the photographs are so fantastic that it is sure to appeal to grown-ups, too. Horse folk will be impressed with what Donk can do… The advice is appropriate for the season – take a hike! And enjoy this lovely miniature donkey. - MidSouth Horse Review

This story is really quite a feat!  Donkey-Donk actually went on a major hike on Mt. Washington!  So awesome! - Horse and Man

The story is very cute (Donkey-Donk decides to get off the couch and go for a hike…but I won’t ruin the ending for you) and the photographs are delightful. Side note:  I really want to go meet Donkey-Donk now. - Decidedly Equestrian

What I like most about the Take A Hike! book (after the photos of Donk, of course) is that this story encourages young children to get off the couch and “take a hike” by showing them all the fun things Donk does and discovers…Also, I like that the story… presents different types of terrain and things you might find in nature wonderfully in simple terms for young children. Even though I am much older than the intended age group, I enjoyed the book very much. Now I am wondering whom I can get these books as gifts. - Hiking Girl With Dog Blog
